The film is a showpiece for Prince, in his first feature, as the Kid, battling in the underground music scene of Minneapolis in the early eighties, as he tries to reconcile his troubled home life, love and his musical rivals.
A cultural milestone that captured the energy, innovation and ambition of its era, and showcases the blockbuster Oscar winning Purple Rain soundtrack album, it is the perfect representation of Prince's unique talent and vision.
The special 40th Anniversary screening will be in HD, with enhanced visuals and sound, and preceded by an introduction to the film to discuss its legacy and context within the cannon of popular music and Black cinema.
