Two performers are on stage in a vibrant and colourful setting. The character on the left wears a whimsical, oversized outfit featuring a green shirt, striped overalls, a bright orange backwards cap, and red sneakers, with an expressive, comedic pose and exaggerated facial expression. The character on the right is dressed as a princess, wearing a bright costume with a red and blue bodice, puffy white sleeves, and a skirt decorated with floral patterns, paired with white sneakers.

We are thrilled to announce that TRU Alliance have raised an incredible £1,586 towards our 2024 Christmas Heroes appeal.

Pantomime is often a child’s first experience of theatre but for many children and their families in Kirklees, a festive trip to the theatre just isn’t possible. Our annual Christmas Heroes appeal enables those in our community, who need it the most, to experience the absolute joy that pantomime brings as we invite children and their families from across Kirklees to Lawrence Batley Theatre.

The Transpennine Route Upgrade, or TRU, is a transformative, railway programme that will better connect passengers in the North between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York. TRU are transforming the Transpennine main line into a high-performing, reliable railway, bringing more frequent, more reliable, faster, greener trains.

We were absolutely delighted when the TRU Social Value Team chose to partner with us to help bring the magic of theatre to children and their families who might not otherwise get the chance to experience it. The team at TRU Alliance set up a JustGiving page and shared it with their employees and contacts, asking them to donate to our Christmas Heroes appeal. In doing so TRU Alliance helped us to reach new audiences and raised a fantastic amount of £1,586 towards our record-breaking total of £15,953. Becky Dash, Chief Executive of Lawrence Batley Theatre said:

“A massive thank you to the TRU Social Value Team and employees and contacts at TRU Alliance for supporting our Christmas Heroes scheme and enabling us to invite a record number of children and their families, who would not otherwise be able to attend, to our Pantomime. Christmas is a time for magic and thanks to this support many young people have had their first experience of live theatre and hopefully made memories that will last a lifetime. Watching their reactions as they realise theatre is live in front of them, not behind a screen, and that being in a theatre can be about joining in, singing along, laughing and escaping from reality for a couple of hours is a really special experience and wouldn't be possible without this support.”

"The magic and wonder of pantomime can light up a child’s imagination, creating memories that last a lifetime. That’s why the TRU West team is so proud to support the Lawrence Batley Theatre in bringing this magical experience to local children who might otherwise never have the opportunity to visit the theatre or enjoy a pantomime due to financial challenges. Together, we’re helping to make a meaningful difference to the lives of local children, one performance at a time."
