A group of dancers performs an intricate and dynamic acrobatic routine. One dancer is airborne, arms reaching up and legs extended, while others form a complex, layered structure on the ground, balancing on each other in various positions. The dancers' movements are captured in mid-motion against a dark background, emphasizing their strength, flexibility, and teamwork. The image conveys a sense of fluidity, energy, and intense focus, highlighting the artistry and physicality of contemporary dance.

Our new season is now on sale and we are proud to present shows that reflect and highlight our amazing community. Our spring 2025 season features an Olivier-award nominated drama from South Asian theatre makers, the return of a world-renowned circus dance company and brave and exciting new theatre from local West Yorkshire artists.

This spring we have a number of events which celebrate South Asian culture and heritage and we are committed to reflecting the diversity found in our region, with a particular focus on welcoming South Asian communities to our theatre.

Working closely with our Community Ambassadors, local South Asian artists who advise on delivering work that reflect the community, we have programmed a series of events which celebrate South Asian stories. This season we are bringing an Olivier-award nominated drama from South Asian theatre makers to our main stage. 10 Nights, from Phizzical and written by Shahid Iqbal Khan, is the story of one man’s journey of self- discovery and facing the consequences of your actions which is performed in English with some Urdu and Arabic references.

Alongside this we are proud to present Rassam, an exhibition of photography which explores South Asian traditions curated by Hardeep Sahota and captured by local photographer John-Slemensek-Thorne, plus the return of our regular banging Bhangra Night, a fun and friendly club-like event with Bhangra DJ’s, Dhol players and dancing.

This season we are bringing the best in contemporary dance to the region with the return of the world-renowned circus dance company Motionhouse, who have been visiting Lawrence Batley Theatre for a number of years. Hidden is the latest show from the company which is at the cutting edge of live performance and digital integration, using gravity-defying choreography, a pulsing soundscape and a shape-shifting set which are drawn together by digital projections into a living film.

We are continuing to fly the flag for local talent and present shows created by West Yorkshire artists, proving that world-class theatre is being created right here in our region and putting Northern voices and stories in the spotlight. This season in our Cellar Theatre, a space to discover brave and exciting new work, there are two shows from local artists which showcase what is being made here in Yorkshire. The theatre’s Associate Artist, playwright Philip Stokes, returns with explosive new drama Shellshocked fresh from a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe and theatre maker Natalie Bellingham brings her special combination of movement, clowning and storytelling in Look After Your Knees

Becky Dash, Chief Executive of the Lawrence Batley Theatre said “As we head into the new year we’re proud to present a season that reflects the people of our community and puts them centre stage. This spring we are celebrating South Asian stories and supporting local West Yorkshire talent. Alongside this we’re bringing world-class theatre from across the UK here to Huddersfield. We’re here to make an impact in Huddersfield and as a registered charity we need your support to continue bringing you the magic of theatre. Visit the venue this spring and you’ll feel welcomed, be entertained and leave inspired.
