Heritage Open Day Tour

Book

Join us for a special backstage tour, taking in the stories of our historic building and a look behind-the-scenes, guided by one of our expert team. Be the first to see our redeveloped spaces following our A Theatre For Tomorrow campaign this summer.

Discover the 200+ years of rich history within the walls of the theatre. Built as a Wesleyan Mission in the early 1800s, the church was – at the time of building – the largest Methodist chapel in the world. Now grade II* listed, the theatre is jam-packed with fascinating history and notable names.

During your one-hour tour you’ll also discover how the building was converted into a theatre in the early 1990s, how the technicians make our shows look and sound great, and where our performers get ready to entertain you.

You’ll also get the very first look at the renovated spaces following our capital redevelopment project, A Theatre For Tomorrow this summer. You’ll see our refreshed Auditorium, the revamped Dressing Rooms and Green Room, as well as our brand-new Participation Space. September is an exciting time for the theatre and we can’t wait to welcome you through our doors.

After the tour, enjoy some refreshments in our Courtyard Café-Bar where you have the choice of a large range of soft and alcoholic beverages and delicious bites to eat. We’re proud that our menu includes local produce from the likes of Magic Rock Brewery, Dark Woods Coffee, and more.
