Head of Creative Programme

Salary: Up to £35,000 per annum dependant on experience 
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

We are looking for an exceptional individual to join us as Head of Creative Programme. You will be open, curious and passionate about performance, and enjoy working in a busy and exciting environment. The role supports our vision to be the creative heart of Huddersfield, bringing the best performances to the town and championing the wealth of talent in Kirklees and West Yorkshire. 

The Head of Creative Programme will realise an ambitious programme of performance in our various performance spaces including a main house seating 461, our cellar studio theatre and courtyard space as well as developing a programme of offsite work. The Head of Creative Programme is a key member of the Programming Committee, made up of other Heads of Department to deliver a cohesive, building-wide programme that’s aligned to the overall artistic strategy. 

We are looking for:

Essential 

  • At least 2 years’ creative experience within an arts, culture or charitable organisation
  • A strong understanding of participation and community engagement work within an arts organisation 
  • A proven track record of effectively managing budgets 
  • A demonstrable understanding of and passion for theatre or other live performance 
  • Experience of working collaboratively or individually to create new work 
  • Ability to develop connections and relationships with a number of individuals/groups including colleagues, artists, participants, funders and stakeholders 
  • An understanding of delivering against local and national funding priorities 
  • Experience of working with hard to reach and diverse groups 
  • Experience of producing, directing and/or adapting work for the stage 

Desirable 

  • Experience of fundraising in line with organisational priorities 
  • Line management experience 
  • An understanding of the ecology of Kirklees and the wider West Yorkshire region

Casual Duty Manager

Salary: £11.30 per hour
Hours: Flexible. Include evenings and weekends.

We are looking for a dynamic individual with a passion for customer service to join our busy Visitor Experience Team on a casual basis. 

 The successful candidate will work as part of the management team to ensure the successful operation of front-of-house services, with focus on high standards and excellent customer service.

We are looking for:

  • 12 months experience in a customer facing environment, including experience in theatre or entertainment industry.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Supervisory / staff management experience.
  • Cash handling.
  • Flexible and available to work various hours, including weekends and evenings

Casual Visitor Experience Assistants

Salary: Living Wage applies (currently £9.50)
Hours: Casual as and when required. We expect your availability to be no less than two shifts per week including weekends and evenings.

Freelance Project Manager (Kirklees Libraries)

We are partnering with Kirklees Libraries to deliver an action research cultural engagement project. The project will be run across six libraries in Batley, Birkby, Deighton, Dewsbury, Ravensthorpe, Rawthorpe and aims to engage library users, groups and the local community in participatory creative activities.

We are seeking a Freelance Project Manager to support the delivery of the project. You will work with Kirklees Libraries staff and volunteers and a pool of freelance artists. You will be responsible for all aspects of project management and will work as part of our Participation Team.

We are looking for:

  • At least two years experience of project management within an arts, cultural or charitable organisation with a focus on cultural engagement with hard to reach and diverse groups.
  • Experience of managing and supporting freelance artists, managing budgets, building relationships with a wide range of people and establishing and implementing evaluation and monitoring procedures.
  • A current, enhanced DBS check and experience of safeguarding.

We particularly welcome applications from people who reflect the diverse communities served by the six libraries. 

The contract is for 50 days over six months beginning mid to late October 2022. The fee is £5,200.

Young Company Volunteer

As our Young Company continues to grow, we are looking for a variety of inspiring individuals to support our young people in their weekly classes.

In this voluntary position, you will be a role model for our young people, supporting the class tutor and assistant with the smooth running of sessions. We require that you would be able to commit to a full term for at least one class. 

We couldn't do what we do without our amazing team of passionate and dedicated volunteers, and we're always on the look out for more fantastic people to join us! Volunteering at the Lawrence Batley Theatre not only helps our theatre to thrive, but is a great way to meet new people, develop new skills, gain experience and become part of our theatre community. There would also be the opportunity to progress from this role to an assistant role.

Marketing Volunteer

Are you interested in a career in theatre marketing? We are looking for an eager individual to support our marketing team in their day-to-day work.

You would be coached by our Senior Marketing Officer, in all things theatre marketing. We would expect duties to include copywriting for blogs or show descriptions, social media content creation and posting, distributing print around town amongst other activities.

In this voluntary position, you would work one day a week (or one day split across two days) mostly during the daytime, for a period of 3 months (term-time only). We work in a busy lively environment and are interested in hearing from individuals who feel they could thrive in this environment. No experience is required, all you need is enthusiasm for theatre and an artistic eye.
