At Lawrence Batley Theatre, we see the power of theatre every day. For young people, stepping into our building isn’t just about performing - it’s about discovering their potential, building confidence, and feeling part of something bigger.
It’s about the young person who finds their voice in a drama workshop, the person who improves their mental health by joining our Young Company, and the aspiring performer who realises their dream after stepping onto our stage.
"It makes me feel more like a defiant person, like people actually want to see me." – Huddersfield’s Got Talent participant
These experiences shape lives, giving young people the space to express themselves, connect with others, and dream bigger. But we need your help to keep supporting young people in our community.
How Theatre Changes Lives
Each year, we see hundreds of young people grow as they develop their creativity through Young Company, experience the magic of professional productions, and take part in special drama sessions and behind-the-scenes tours.
“I love drama because you get to express your feelings.” – Young Company member
These opportunities give them the confidence to express themselves, meet new friends, improve communication, and help young people develop resilience. Through theatre, they learn to think creatively, work as a team, and see new possibilities for their future, whether on stage or beyond.

Lawrence Batley Theatre Is Here for Everyone
We believe theatre should be for everyone. That’s why we offer bursary places and subsidised tickets through our Kirklees Passport holder scheme, making sure no young person or their family misses out.
As a registered charity (No. 510693), we rely on donations to make this possible. Without funding, we simply can’t continue providing these life-changing experiences.
We’re Almost There! Help Us Reach £30,000
To make sure these essential opportunities are still available for years to come, in 2024 we set ourselves the ambitious goal of raising £30,000 in our thirtieth year.
Every donation helps us continue to provide services which engage local people in the arts for another 30 years to come - but we need your help to get over the finish line.
Thanks to the generous support from so many of you, we’ve already raised an incredible £27,621.
Reaching our £30,000 target will allow more young people to build confidence through theatre, provide essential bursary places for those who need them most, and create even more opportunities for local people to engage with the arts.
Be Part of the Future
We’re only £2,379 away from making our 30th birthday wish come true! Help us reach our goal before the end of March by donating today.
Every donation, no matter the amount, plays a vital role in keeping creativity thriving in Huddersfield. Donate today.
Thank you for helping us make a lasting impact.
